Recently retired NRL legend Cameron Smith AM is the most decorated rugby league player of all time. The recipient of numerous Dally M and Golden Boot awards, he starred in the toughest competition on the planet every season from 2002 – 2020. Holding records for NRL games played, games won, games captained, goals kicked, points scored, tackles made, Origins played and Origins won, his trophy cabinet includes three Premierships, 11 State of Origin series, 8 Melbourne Storm Player of the Year awards and 9 Dally M Hooker of the Year awards. A three-time Premiership winner with 11 State of Origin shields and two World Cups, Smith played 430 NRL games, 42 Origins for Queensland and 56 test matches for Australia.
"He plays like he's watching from 20 metres above. He's the most humble champion I've ever met – a really good fella – a salt of the earth sort of guy. I just love that he loves the game of rugby league so much.”
“He takes a lot of pride in his all-round performance and one of those aspects is his leadership. He's a great captain and a great leader. The accolades he receives are very fitting for the person he is”.
“Cam has won everything in the game, but also has exemplary leadership skills off-field and enormous pulling power. If I’m setting up a new team I’d make him the captain-coach, simple as that.”
